Ways of stopping your partner from taking you for granted

Ways of stopping your partner from taking you for granted

You have realized that your partner takes you for granted; he does not appreciate what you do, he is insensitive to your needs and does not even reciprocate your kind gestures.

However, you still want to make the relationship work. So what should you do?

1. Say something

Well, it does no good to keep seething in rage. You should speak up so that he knows what he has been doing wrong. From there, you will know the next step to take.

2. Assess your behaviour

In a previous article where I talked about possible reasons your partner takes you for granted, I mentioned that you may be the one enabling him, so you have to look inward. Is there anything you have been doing that encourages the behaviour? Do you allow yourself to be treated like a doormat? Do you demand too little of him? Are you assertive about your needs?

3. Focus on yourself

Some people are just douche bags for no reason and because you spend so much time worrying about them, their level of ‘douchebagness’ just increases. This is why you should focus on catering for yourself, your needs, and goals. Practice self-care and take time to prioritize yourself.

4. Set boundaries

Inasmuch as I encourage you to be selfless, decide on how far you will go for him. Will you borrow money from someone else for him? Will you take it if you go to his house, cook, clean, and do laundry with as much as a ‘thank you’?

5. Don’t take him for granted

Another thing to note is that what you see may be a reflection of how you treat him. Perhaps you are insensitive and unconsciously he does the same to you too. Remember to always treat others the way you want to be treated.

We are just getting started. I have more methods coming right up.
