Hazard: I'm in 7th heaven playing under Zidane

Former Chelsea captain Eden Hazard says Zinedine Zidane was his idol as a kid, and now he feels like a man in heaven with the opportunity of being trained by the France legend at Real Madrid.

“As a child I dreamed of one day wearing Real Madrid’s shirt” Hazard told Corriere della Sera.

“When Real knock on your door you can do only one thing: open it. At Chelsea I spent unforgettable years, but here I am in seventh heaven. One of my idols, as a child, was Zinedine Zidane. I had his poster in the room and now I have the opportunity to be trained by him.”

Hazard seems to be settling in fast under his hero at the Santiago Bernabeu. He netted the solitary match winner as Madrid beat Salzburg 1-0 in pre-season friendly match on Wednesday.

The Zidane’s men will confront Roma in their last buildup match on Sunday before taking on Celta Vigo in their first 2019/20 Laliga game of the season a week later. And Hazard is raring to go.

The Belgium captain admits that his two former coaches at Chelsea, Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri improved his development with their different styles.

“I learned a lot from them both. They are different from each other in terms of character and football ideas, but they have one thing in common: they are two winners,” Hazard remarked.

“They have a marked style, and they know which messages to give to players.”

On his Belgium teammate, Romelu Lukaku’s switch to Inter Milan from Manchester United, Hazard says the striker will score plenty goals for the Series A side.

“He is a fantastic striker, a bomber who knows how to adapt to all the conditions of the game,” said Hazard,” he said.

“He will score a lot – and this is important for a striker – but it would be a mistake to consider him just for that. He can do many things.

“For example, he is a specialist for creating what we call ‘second plays. Everyone plays better with him in the team.”
